Campaign to save SRG launched in anticipation of fight

SRG/SSR

Following the weekend’s vote where plans for financial assistance for the media was thrown out – many expect the Swiss People’s Party to relaunch its campaign against the TV and radio licence fee and starve the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, or SRG, of cash.

The right-wing party wants to half the amount people are forced to pay.

While that campaign has not started, already a group of journalists, politicians and artists have grouped together to fight it.

They claim the SRG is vital and does many things the private sector can’t or wouldn’t do – especially in a small multi-lingual country.

Voters have given their verdict on the funding of the SRG before. In March 2018, 72% rejected an initiative to abolish it.
