A Geneva National Councillor is calling for a major upgrade of the line running from Geneva to the French city of Lyon.
Green party member, Delphine Klopfenstein Broggini, is calling on the government to examine the link. She says it’s strategically important as its Switzerland’s gateway to south west Europe.
She points out there are around thirty trains a day from Zurich to Stuttgart and Basel to Mulhouse – but only 10 to Lyon.
She also says the carriages are old and the trains are slow.
She says Bern should invest in the line and Swiss Federal Railways should run their own trains – as it already does to Milan.
