Bunny war settled - thousands will be melted

Lindt Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny War has been won – and it will mean the destruction of thousands.

The chocolate maker Lindt & Sprüngli has won a trademark case against the German cut price retailer Lidl.

Lindt has been producing a gold foil covered Easter chocolate bunny for years. The German company also made a chocolate bunny wrapped in a gold-coloured covering.

Lindt has been fighting a court case for years, demanding the interloper be stopped as it was too similar to their best-selling product.

The Federal Court has ruled in the Swiss company’s favour. The judges did acknowledge there were some differences, but determined they were not enough to avoid confusion.

They ordered Lidl to destroy their stock of Easter Bunnies.
