The bodies of two people who were swept away in the Arve River in Geneva yesterday morning have been found. Police are checking to see if they had actually been electrocuted.

A 29-year-old woman jumped into the river to save her dog near the old Vessy pumping station, which still houses a small hydroelectric power station.

When she was being carried away by the current – a man jumped in after her to help. He was also swept away.

Both bodies were found last night.

Investigations are now underway to see if electricity from the power plant was leaking into the river which would have only added to the pair’s problems.
