Emergency teams around Blatten are itching to start the clean-up operation after last week’s devastating rockfall – but authorities say it’s still too dangerous to get too close as rocks continue to tumble off the mountain.
Some work has started - a new road is being built to help with the removal of debris and the army is getting drift wood out of the river.
But plenty of people and heavy equipment remain idle, waiting for the go ahead.
The task is so big, many say the work needs to start as soon as possible before the snow comes this winter.
Questions are already being asked about who pays for the reconstruction. The federal government is promising there will be money available, but it will likely be the insurance companies that will have to do the heavy lifting - as they will be responsible for rebuilding houses, farms and hotels.
