Biodiversity vote looks set to fail

It looks likely the upcoming vote on Biodiversity will fail when voters make their decision on the 22nd of this month.

The latest poll, by the media group Tamedia, says there’s now a narrow majority against – reversing the result of earlier surveys.

Broadly left wingers are in favour, but the right are against.

Detractors say if the vote passes, it won’t allow specific programmes suitable for local needs and could impact the development of renewable energy.

But others say that’s scare-mongering, the environmental group Pro Natura says it’s the current state of biodiversity is what we should be worried about.

Full details of the upcoming federal votes is the subject of this week’s Swiss Up, now available on our website
