A bear has been killing sheep in the Engadine near the border between canton Graubünden and Italy.
It’s believed the animal has recently entered Switzerland from Italy.
The Graubünden Office of Hunting and Fishing says five sheep have been found dead, one had to be euthanized following serious injuries and several more are missing. Experts confirm the attacks are consistent with a bear.
DNA will be taken from the dead animals to determine which exact bear is responsible. Once a bear starts attacking livestock, it rarely changes its behaviour.
