A baby, only a few days old, was killed by the family pet in the neighbouring French department of Ain over the weekend.

Police say the baby was sleeping in his grandmother’s apartment in Oyonnax when the husky slipped in to the room and grabbed the baby by the head.

The dog then took him into the living room in front of the horrified family.

The dog is now under surveillance and will be assessed by a vet to determine its level of dangerousness. The animal could be euthanized.

Police have launched an investigation.
