The modernisation of Swiss Air Traffic Control is being slowed as the process is being blamed on a series of mishaps which have led to delays.
The CHF 300m upgrade was due to be completed this year – but it now may take another 10 years as the speed of change is slowed.
Skyguide’s technical director, Klaus Meier, says upgrading operational air traffic control systems can be likened to open heart surgery. He says they underestimated the time frame required.
One of the major aims of the new system is the virtual merging of Geneva and Zurich air traffic control systems.
