Arrests after allegations of abuse at Geneva school

Three staff members at a specialist school in Geneva that looks after autistic children have been arrested on suspicion of abuse.

The issues came to light after an investigation by the ‘Le Temps’ newspaper.

There are allegations the children were locked up, left in their own excrement, denied food – and in one case given medication that had not been prescribed to them.

The Mancy School in Collonge-Bellerive only opened in 2018 and looks after around 10 residents aged between 8 and 18 with mental health needs.

The head of the Geneva Education Department, Anne Emery-Torracinta, says she’s puzzled why the potential problems were not reported to her earlier.
