Parliament looks set to close a loophole that allows hundreds of people to escape military service.
Under the law, anyone who’s served in a foreign army can’t serve in the Swiss army.
That gives those who have both Swiss and a French passport an escape route. They just have to do one day in the French forces, called the Defence and Citizenship Day, then they can’t serve in Switzerland.
Around 700 take advantage of that every year.
But the exemption looks set to end. The upper house of Parliament has accepted a motion to end it.
It now goes to the lower house for a vote - where it is expected to pass.
