Arms makers move production out of Switzerland

Swiss arms manufactures are moving some production out of the country to escape strict neutrality laws.

Currently, Switzerland bans sending munitions to countries in conflict and places restrictions on re-selling arms to third countries.

These rules mean Switzerland is missing out on Europe’s rearming. Although more is being spent on arms, the Swiss sector is seeing exports slump.

Peter Huber, who runs the arms company, Systems Assembling, is moving production to Portugal to escape the Swiss rules. 60 jobs will go at his Neuchatel factory because of that.

He says he knows of other arms makers doing the same.
