Anti-Semitic attacks up

The number of anti-Semitic attacks in French speaking Switzerland is soaring.

According to the Intercommunity Coordination against Anti-Semitism and Defamation group, last year there were 944 incidents – a rise of 68%.

The increase is largely due to the conflict in Gaza. The group says it serves as a pretext for anti-Semitism.

The types of attack vary from graffiti, speeches and emails.

The group says schools are particularly affected where the word ‘Jew’ is being used as an insult – and an appearance of social media memes featuring Hitler.

It’s calling for a ban of Nazi symbols to be enacted across the country by federal politicians and authorities to take a strong stance against anti-Semitism.
