Another parental attack on amateur referee

Following earlier warnings of aggressive parents at youth football matches, a game had to be abandoned after a father of a 16-year-old player grabbed the volunteer referee by the neck.

It happened at a match between the junior teams of FC Onex and Team Rive-Gauche early last month, but the details have just been released.

The ref then told authorities that the parent threatened to kill him if he reported the incident, despite it being witnessed by many others at the time.

The club FC Onex juniors have told the father he’s no longer welcome at any of their matches and the police will be called if he turns up.

Amateur football clubs sounded the alarm by the growing threat of violent and abusive parents only a couple of weeks before.
