A major rescue operation was launched in Nendaz in canton Valais yesterday afternoon after a massive avalanche killed one skier.
The snow collapse was around 400 meters wide.
The death of the 58-year-old yesterday follows a 28-year-old who died on Monday – both were skiing off-piste.
Eight helicopters, dog handlers and police searched for any other survivors, but no one was found.
Authorities are issuing strong warnings and are calling for skiers to stay on marked runs.
The recent snow is now sitting on very old snow that fell more than 6 weeks ago. Experts say this makes the pack very unstable.
