The French town of Annemasse is getting nearly EUR 12m from Geneva as part of the transfer of tax paid by frontaliers.
The amount is a record.
Under a 50-year-old agreement with canton Geneva, cross border workers pay to Geneva, but an amount is transferred to the commune where they live – and Annemasse has more border workers than any other.
More than 9,000 of its residents work in Geneva.
In total Geneva will be paying EUR 350m to neighbouring France. Reflecting where frontaliers live, 77% of the cash is going to communes in Haute Savoie and 23% to the department of Ain.
The agreement only covers those working in Geneva.
