Anarchists flock to the Swiss Jura

Up to 4,000 anarchists are expected to flood the small town of Saint-Imier in the canton of Bern over the next few days for the Anarchy 2023 event.

This year’s meeting will commemorate the 150th anniversary of Anti-authoritarian International, which was set up following the Libertarian Congress meeting in Saint-Imier in 1872. The meeting is credited with establishing the anarchist movement.

The event runs until Sunday and brings anarchists together for what organisers describe as ‘collective reflection, sharing experiences, and building solidarity across struggles and borders’.

Across 12 venues, the gathering includes over 300 workshops, 48 concerts, 36 film screenings, 11 theatre performances, seven exhibitions, an anarchist radio station, and a book fair.
