All Afghan women should be given refugee status

Switzerland should issue humanitarian visas to all Afghan women and girls who have their home country.

The call comes from the City of Geneva as well as two former presidents of the Confederation, Ruth Dreifuss and Micheline Calmy-Rey. In a message to the current Minister of Justice, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and the rest of the Federal Council, they point out that only Sweden and Denmark automatically grant asylum to female Afghans.

The mayor of Geneva, Alfonso Gomez, says Bern should let communes make more of the decisions to welcome refugees.
