After 30 years, Tunisian man has to leave

Federal Court, Lausanne

A Tunisian man who’s been living in Switzerland for the last 30 years looks set to be expelled.

The 56-year-old lives in Vaud has two children – but lives separately from his wife. He hasn’t worked since 2003 and has been claiming benefits for all that time. He’s also in debt by CHF 240,000 and has a string of offences, ranging from fraud, to assault and theft.

He tried to persuade judges to let him say, citing his long stint in Switzerland, his family ties and health needs.

But judges ruled he must return to Tunisia.
