Climate activists disrupted a ceremony at the Locarno Film Festival last night – but were given the microphone to speak by the film maker receiving an award and some members of the audience applauded.

Members of Renovate Switzerland climbed onto the stage while director and environmentalist, Luc Jacquet, was being honoured.

The 55-year-old Frenchman directed the 2005 hit ‘March of the Penguins’.

Renovate Switzerland told the press they were given the mic by Jacquet himself. Some members of the audience applauded the protestors.

After the interruption, police took away the protestors.
