A twist in hospital tale

There’s been a twist in the tale of two brothers attacking hospital staff in Annemasse.

Earlier this week, the story emerged the brothers went to the emergency room after one sustained a work-related injury.

They complained about having to wait too long – and allegedly started to attack staff until a full-scale brawl broke out. The incident triggered a response from the French health minister who promised ‘extended sentences.’

But more details are emerging. At the time, there were many off-duty staff present as they were having an office party. One of the brothers alleges he was pushed first by a nurse who smelled of alcohol – and they were only defending themselves.

The brothers were arrested the next day when they voluntarily visited a police station to complain about their treatment.

Public prosecutors are acknowledging an alternative version of the story is now emerging. A lawyer for the hospital firmly denies staff may be at least partly to blame.

The issue will go to court next month.
