Thousands of motorists could be getting a speeding fine from Lausanne police for an offence that could be as much as three years ago.
The police force admits they’ve recently become aware of a software bug that prevented the original fines from being issued.
It’s thought there could be as many as 6,000 in the system.
The law allows for three years for fines to be sent, so Lausanne police say they are within the time.
One affected motorist told the 20 minutes newspaper she is very unhappy.
She says it took 2 years for the fine to come through – and she’s been given an order to pay CHF 500 within ten days, but as the letter was sent by B post – she only had 24 hours to come up with the money.
