22 year murder case finally goes to court

A man is due to go on trial in canton Bern for a murder committed 22 years ago.

Known at the time as the Uzi Murder – a 22 year old man was shot and killed during a robbery that went wrong in a trailer park.

Although police have maintained the hunt all this time, there was a breakthrough after a man was arrested for burglary and his DNA matched a sample found at the scene of the killing.

He’s been in detention since January 2021 – although his defence maintains that just because he was at the scene doesn’t make him the killer.

The trial starts today in Biel. The defendant maintains his innocence.
