This week Dario Brander takes a close look at Switzerland's relationship with China.

Switzerland may have been one of the first western counties to recognise Communist China under Mao Zedong in 1950. This lay the basis of a solid relationship and to this day Switzerland is fairly highly regarded by the Chinese. Economic interests in 1980 solidified a relationship when the Swiss elevator company Schindler became the first international firm to create a joint enterprise with a Chinese company in Beijing.

China is important in terms of both imports to, and exports from, Switzerland. But now tensions are on the rise due to human rights violations which stand to impact the economic relationship. Dario explains what a new law aimed to limit foreign investment signifies for the relationship between the two countries.
