Corbat was selected due to their ties with the French wood industry and proximity to the border. They processed 40 oak pieces, a modest 2% of the 2,000 needed. Remarkably, their work was pro bono, reflecting co-director Gauthier Corbat’s passion for Gothic architecture and historic preservation. His efforts, driven by an art historian’s love for medieval craftsmanship, elevated the company’s profile and led to new opportunities, such as restoring a 16th-century mosque. This collaboration underscored a commitment to heritage over profit.

Development Zone Law: A proposal to involve property owners earlier in development plans, allowing them to trigger local votes against redevelopment without collecting signatures. Supporters say it will reduce conflicts, while critics argue it could hinder affordable housing.

Income Tax Amendment (LIPP): A plan to reduce income taxes, especially for the middle class, to alleviate rising living costs. Critics, mostly from the left, argue it benefits the wealthy and could harm public services.

Public Transport Law: A proposal to give Geneva’s Public Transport company more control over fare pricing. While right-wing groups support it for efficiency, unions and left-wing parties fear it could lead to higher fares.

Mont-Blanc Passarelle: A new pedestrian bridge project supported by a broad political coalition but opposed by heritage groups due to its cost and impact on the environment.

Advertising Ban in Lancy: A proposal to remove commercial ads from public spaces, supported by those wishing to reduce consumerism, but opposed by those concerned about economic impact.

Voting takes place on November 24th.

Next, we discuss two controversial rental law revisions. One proposal would make it harder for tenants to sublet, while the other would allow landlords to reclaim their properties more easily. Proponents say the changes would clarify and protect landlords’ rights, while critics, especially tenants' associations, fear they would lead to more evictions and less security for renters.

Finally, we examine a healthcare financing reform aiming to create a unified system for both inpatient and outpatient care, with cantons covering a third of costs and insurance covering two-thirds. Supporters believe it will reduce costs and improve care coordination, but opponents worry it could lead to higher premiums and skeptical savings. Next week, we'll focus on local votes in Geneva.
