Carouge Character : Taking a walking tour

Listen Again

Wednesday, 11 August 2021 - 6 minutes

In Carouge Character we look at what you can do in the gorgeous city of Carouge.

At just 2.65km2 it's perfect for an easy stroll, but how about a walking tour? There are around 20 different themed tours that you can do, at just over an hour each, and some summer themes are running now until 23 October. The summer tours are themed: botanical highlights, secret gardens, sculptures and frescos, a zigzag through Carouge, and the animals of the city.

WRS spoke to Gianna Loredan from Illico travel - the Ville de Carouge's partner for these walking tours. She gave us some of her own highlights for the various different tours available, including one enormous tree built in the time of Napoleon, a painter's mistake when it came to refurbishing Carouge's emblem, and her very favourite musical fresco (pictured) by Carougeois local Gérard Poussin.

At just CHF 10 (or CHF 5 for a reduced price ticket for AVS / child etc), they're a great way to discover the city of Carouge.

If you can't make one of Gianna's themed tours, there's also a really useful Carouge tour available for your smartphone. Simply download the izi travel app, select your language preference, and you're all set to discover the city of Carouge independently. The Carouge tour can even be downloaded in advance via the izi travel app, so that it can be used offline.

Happy exploration!
