On the WRS Breakfast Show, Katt Cullen spoke to Dr Emily Schafer and Dr Julika Radecke, the Geneva coordinators of the science festival Pint of Science.

The idea is simple: grab a drink, pull up a chair, and hear directly from scientists about the fascinating work they’re doing - in a way that’s designed for curious non-scientists, not academics.

Reimagining the ancient myth for a modern audience, this powerful production challenges the familiar image of Icarus as merely reckless and arrogant. Instead, Fo reveals a deeper warning: the danger of escaping reality in search of comforting illusions and fantasies. Performed by Geneva local, Gabriel Bird, the adaption blends sharp wit, dark humour, and emotional depth, as well as the fragile bond between father and son.

Both heartfelt tragedy and biting social commentary, Dedalus and Icarus remains strikingly relevant in today’s world.

The production takes place at Théâtre Les 50, a unique multicultural performance space near Geneva, owned by Karen Curtis. Housed in a transformed 19th-century residence, the theatre is known for its intimate atmosphere, international productions, and commitment to artists in residence from across the region and beyond.

Parents know how intense it can get when our teens tackle the IB diploma, IGCSEs, or A levels. The pressure can feel like a pressure cooker at home!

So, what can you do? Start by getting a revision schedule in place. Make sure they have the exam dates front and centre, and help them plan their revision time effectively. 

Don't forget to identify those clusters of exam days. If there are days with multiple exams, let them know they can take a breather on the lighter days. A little planning can make a huge difference!

Theatre for a Cause was created during the COVID19 pandemic to bring communities together through the performing arts while supporting local social initiatives. Since launching in 2020, the group has raised more than CHF 8,000 for Geneva-based organisations.

Their latest production explores the theme of hope in all its complexity. Through a series of intimate monologues and dialogues performed by a cast of 16, the bilingual French-English piece moves between stories of resilience, uncertainty and persistence - asking what keeps us moving forward when certainties begin to falter.

Originally staged internationally in Montreal in 2025, the show now arrives in Geneva with sur-titles (like sub-titles but above the stage) in both French and English, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Proceeds from the performances will support two local organisations working on gender equality and creative wellbeing.

Note-by-Note, founded by Sue, runs several choirs and choral groups that rehearse and perform throughout the year. This Christmas Sing-a-long is open for everyone to join, with a selection of songs also performed by her professional choir.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, 6 December at the Salle Communale in Chéserex. The singing begins at 2pm and lasts for about an hour. Afterwards, guests can enjoy mulled wine and mince pies, and children can take part in planned activities while parents socialise.

Everyone - young and old - is warmly invited to join in, with a festive mix of Christmas songs for all to enjoy.

The play is set during the American Civil War and centres around four sisters as they grow and learn about themselves.

While there have been many stage versions of the novel, this particular adaptation by  Heather Chrisler takes a new look. This performance will be the first time this version has been staged in Europe. 

Two of the cast members Hannah Sellers (Jo) and Mackenzie Stanley (Meg) came into the WRS studios and spoke to Mark Butcher.
