Les Genevoix, Geneva’s gay men’s choir and the only gay men’s choir in French-speaking Switzerland, are preparing for their upcoming concert “Rise Up – Sois Toi-Même.” Formed in 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic with just ten singers meeting online, the choir has since grown into a vibrant community of around 50 amateur voices representing more than 20 nationalities from every continent.

United by a mission to build community among gay men, Les Genevoix also promote tolerance, acceptance, and visibility in support of the wider LGBTIQA+ community.

The choir performs a varied repertoire in four-part harmony, spanning contemporary pop, musical theatre anthems, and emotional classics in both French and English, reflecting the diversity of its members.

Their concert takes place on Saturday 13 June at 8pm at Salle Frank-Martin in Geneva. The programme includes 16 songs exploring strength, identity, and self-expression.

Tickets are available at www.lesgenevoix.com or at the door, and all are welcome to attend.

Geneva-based psychologist and career transition specialist Marion Aufseesser has just released her second book, To Pee Or Not To Pee, a photography collection dedicated entirely to restroom doors and bathroom entrances from around the world.

Featuring images of men’s, women’s and unisex bathrooms - alongside symbols ranging from cows to abstract figures - the book explores the many creative, humorous and sometimes outdated ways societies communicate ideas around gender, identity and public space.

Alongside the photography, Marion also curates reflections on cultural habits, sanitation issues and the universal experience of navigating public bathrooms. The bilingual French-English book mixes light-hearted observation with broader social commentary.

Marion joins Katt Cullen on the WRS Breakfast Show to discuss what inspired the project, what she discovered through the images, and what these everyday symbols reveal about the way we see ourselves and others...

Award-winning Irish novelist John Boyne joins Katt Cullen on the WRS Breakfast Show to discuss his powerful new novel The Elements - a sweeping literary saga exploring guilt, trauma, complicity, and redemption through four interconnected narratives.

Best known internationally for The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Boyne is the author of sixteen novels for adults, alongside books for younger readers, novellas, and short story collections. His bestselling 2006 novel became a global phenomenon, translated into more than 58 languages and adapted into a critically acclaimed film in 2008. The novel has sold more than 11 million copies globally, making it one of the bestselling books of all time. Its sequel, All the Broken Places, was published in 2022.

Now in Geneva to speak with the Geneva Literary Society, Boyne is discussing his 2025 novel The Elements, which follows a mother on the run from her past, a young football star facing trial, a surgeon haunted by childhood trauma, and a father and son on a transformative journey. Each story explores a different role within cycles of harm - the enabler, the accomplice, the perpetrator, and the victim - before gradually intertwining in unexpected ways. Widely described as Boyne’s most ambitious work yet, The Elements examines how and why people allow wrongdoing to happen, challenging readers to confront their own understanding of guilt, innocence, responsibility, and forgiveness.

Katt spoke with John Boyne about the enduring legacy of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, the inspiration behind The Elements, and why these themes continue to resonate so strongly today.

You can attend John's Societé de Lecture talk (in English) at 7pm on Wednesday 20 May at 11 Grand Rue, 1204 Geneva.

Tickets are CHF 20 for members and CHF 30 for non-members and can be purchased at : societe-de-lecture.ch/events/john-boyne-english/

On WRS Breakfast Show, Katt Cullen speaks with photographer and filmmaker Richard Wainwright about his powerful new documentary exploring the role of therapy dogs in Uganda. The 30-minute film follows the work of charity “The Big Fix” which, in the aftermath of the brutal 20-year conflict in Northern Uganda, pairs former child soldiers abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army and living with severe PTSD with rescued and abandoned dogs.

As both the people and animals carry the scars of trauma, the documentary reveals the extraordinary bond that develops between them - and the healing, trust and hope they rediscover together.

Richard shares stories from the people featured in the film - including Lucy and Sadik, Francis and Tommy, and Jennifer, who says her dog Ogen saved her life - and explains the science behind the human-animal bond.

Richard presents the documentary in Geneva next Wednesday 27 May 2026 at Les Salons Théâtre. He'll be present alongside child psychologst and WRS Kids in Mind host, Dr Rebecca Weber for a post-screening discussion.

Tickets are CHF 30 and available now through the American International Club at amclub.ch.

It’s a rare opportunity to hear directly from the filmmaker and learn more about the extraordinary healing bond between people and animals affected by conflict.

Pint of Science is back - and it’s bringing cutting-edge research out of the lab and into the pub!

On the WRS Breakfast Show, Katt Cullen spoke to Dr Emily Schafer and Dr Julika Radecke, the Geneva coordinators of the science festival Pint of Science.

The idea is simple: grab a drink, pull up a chair, and hear directly from scientists about the fascinating work they’re doing - in a way that’s designed for curious non-scientists, not academics.

From neuroscience and biomedical engineering to quantum physics and astrophysics, the talks are short, engaging, and interactive, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

This year’s Geneva events take place from 18-20 May, with English-language talks happening at the Mr Pickwick Pub on May 19 and 20 at 7pm.

And it’s not just Geneva. Pint of Science events are happening in cities across Switzerland, bringing science to bars, cafés and curious minds nationwide.

Fraternal Compagnia presents Dedalus and Icarus, written by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Dario Fo and newly adapted in English to celebrate the centenary of the Italian master’s birth, promoted by the Franca Rame and Dario Fo Foundation.

Reimagining the ancient myth for a modern audience, this powerful production challenges the familiar image of Icarus as merely reckless and arrogant. Instead, Fo reveals a deeper warning: the danger of escaping reality in search of comforting illusions and fantasies. Performed by Geneva local, Gabriel Bird, the adaption blends sharp wit, dark humour, and emotional depth, as well as the fragile bond between father and son. Both heartfelt tragedy and biting social commentary, Dedalus and Icarus remains strikingly relevant in today’s world.

The production takes place at Théâtre Les 50, a unique multicultural performance space near Geneva, owned by Karen Curtis. Housed in a transformed 19th-century residence, the theatre is known for its intimate atmosphere, international productions, and commitment to artists in residence from across the region and beyond.

Dedalus and Icarus will be performed on 15 and 17 May 2026 in English, and on 16 May in French at the Théâtre Les 50 in Saint-Jean-de-Gonville in neighbouring France. Tickets are €22, with reduced tickets for students.

Is your teenager feeling the heat of exam season? Here's how to make it a little easier for everyone...

Parents know how intense it can get when our teens tackle the IB diploma, IGCSEs, or A levels. The pressure can feel like a pressure cooker at home!

So, what can you do? Start by getting a revision schedule in place. Make sure they have the exam dates front and centre, and help them plan their revision time effectively.

Don't forget to identify those clusters of exam days. If there are days with multiple exams, let them know they can take a breather on the lighter days. A little planning can make a huge difference!

And remember, remind them there’s a light at the end of the tunnel - maybe plan something special to celebrate their hard work once it’s all over!

Alex Marrable from TutorsPlus shares some top tips to get through exam season as well as ideas on when it's time to bring in a tutor.

On this morning's WRS Breakfast Show, Dr Sylvia Kalicinski, a Geneva-based therapist and Lonely AF author, explores the modern loneliness epidemic and what truly helps us feel connected.
World Radio Switzerland’s Katt Cullen sits down with Morgan Grey, co-Chair of Democrats Abroad Swiss Romande, to talk about everyone’s favourite topic… taxes.

As April approaches, US citizens abroad are once again facing filing season - but help is at hand. Democrats Abroad Switzerland is hosting a series of tax talks, including in-person sessions and a key Online Tax Talk on March 31.

Open to all US citizens and Swiss residents, these events break down what you need to know; from filing requirements to common pitfalls - while (somehow!) making the process feel a little less painful. Featuring expert Rebecca Heid of AIT Services, the sessions offer practical insights and a live Q&A.

Registration is required, with proceeds supporting 2026 voter outreach efforts.

On The Breakfast Show with Katt Cullen, we spoke to Cynthia Keza Birikundavyi, co-founder of Theatre for a Cause, to talk about their upcoming production Somewhere, In Between (Dans l’entre-deux), coming to the Théâtre des Grottes from 20-22 March 2026.

Theatre for a Cause was created during the COVID19 pandemic to bring communities together through the performing arts while supporting local social initiatives. Since launching in 2020, the group has raised more than CHF 8,000 for Geneva-based organisations.

Their latest production explores the theme of hope in all its complexity. Through a series of intimate monologues and dialogues performed by a cast of 16, the bilingual French-English piece moves between stories of resilience, uncertainty and persistence - asking what keeps us moving forward when certainties begin to falter.

Originally staged internationally in Montreal in 2025, the show now arrives in Geneva with sur-titles (like sub-titles but above the stage) in both French and English, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Proceeds from the performances will support two local organisations working on gender equality and creative wellbeing.

🎭 4 x Performances: 20, 21 & 22 March

LIONS is a young corporate community based in Zurich, created to connect the international young professional scene across Switzerland. It brings together people working in finance, consulting, pharma, tech, and related fields - building a strong network through curated social events that combine meaningful connections with high-quality music.

Although they’re relatively new on the scene - their first event was in April 2024 - they’ve already made a big impact. Their Christmas party in December welcomed more than 450 guests, showing there’s clear demand for this kind of international, professional-yet-social community in Zurich.

What makes LIONS stand out is the atmosphere. Their DJs come from top clubs in Spain, bringing that vibrant energy to Zurich and blending it with a professional after-work crowd.

Their first event of 2026 is LIONS Thursday, an after-work edition taking place on Thursday 26th February at Kraftwerk. It’s designed as a space where ambitious young professionals can unwind, meet like-minded people, and enjoy great music - all in a stylish setting.

To find out more, follow them on Instagram at @lions.fest and join their WhatsApp group for updates on upcoming events.

On the WRS Breakfast Show, Katt Cullen speaks with Prof. Dr. Dawn Rose, a music psychologist and lead researcher on an international study at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) exploring how music can help ease Parkinson’s symptoms. She's also an ex punk-rock drummer and session musician.

With over 15,000 people in Switzerland living with Parkinson’s, the research shows that music can significantly improve movement, motivation, and mood. Prof. Rose explains how rhythm can act as an external cue to support walking, while even imagined music - an “inner jukebox” - can help people overcome freezing episodes.

The research was developed in close collaboration with people living with the condition and includes diverse musical styles, from marching music to traditional dance.

They discuss the next steps for the project and the recent findings, as well as the implications of such a project and the next steps.

There’s a unique version of the Vagina Monologues coming up in Geneva – all to raise money for an excellent cause.

The show is called ‘Not the Vagina Monologues’ and it’s a creation by singer songwriter Katrina Syran - she joined Mark Butcher in the studio with Madeleine Rees, who’s extraordinary life inspired the 2010 film, ‘the Whistleblower – where her role was played by Vanessa Redgrave.

We’ll start with Katrina – who reminds us what the Vagina Monologues are all about…

You can see ‘Not the Vagina Monologues’ at the Theatre de la Madeleine on Saturday 13th December.

The theatre is on the Rue de la Madeleine in the centre of Geneva.

Katt Cullen is joined in the studio by Tobias Blaha, Director and Veterinarian at Bioparc Genève, along with the show-stealing yellow-crested cockatoo, Aldo.

Tobias explains the Bioparc’s mission to help visitors discover, understand, and reconnect with nature through close encounters with wildlife.

He discusses their important work in conservation, education, research, as well as their vital role in rescuing injured local wildlife.

Meanwhile, Aldo contributed a quiet whistle and sat calmly in the studio, taking it all in.

This week, Katt Cullen is joined by Helena Grant, the newly appointed Head of Primary at Geneva English School (GES), who will take up the role in January 2026.

Families moving overseas often ask which curriculum best prepares their children for the future—one that’s both internationally recognised and academically rigorous. Helena, an expert in the English National Curriculum, explains why so many international families choose it. With over 25 years’ experience in education, she’s worked in schools across the UK, Tanzania, and Kenya, and will soon bring that global perspective to GES, which teaches children aged 3 to 13.

Helena highlights how the English National Curriculum balances academic excellence with the development of the whole child—building teamwork, leadership, empathy, and resilience. At GES, pupils consistently exceed expectations, thanks to strong support and challenge for every learner.

Helena looks forward to nurturing a joyful, curious, and ambitious school community.

Katt Cullen is joined in the studio by Joshua Levens and Pia Oberoi, two cast members from the GEDS’s upcoming production of Deathtrap, the classic thriller by Ira Levin. Directed by Veera Valo, the play blends suspense, dark humour, and sharp twists that keep audiences guessing until the very end.

Joshua and Pia discuss their roles as Sidney and Myra Bruhl. Sidney, once a celebrated playwright, is desperate for another hit. When he receives an exceptional script from his former student, Clifford Anderson, he half-jokes that he might kill him and claim it as his own. But when Clifford accepts an invitation to Sidney’s secluded home, the line between a harmless quip and a deadly plan begins to blur.

Expect intrigue, surprises, and a masterclass in psychological tension from GEDS’ latest production.

Deathtrap runs 25–29 November 2025 at the Théâtre de Terre-Sainte in Coppet. Tickets available now at www.geds.ch

Later this month, the Village Players of Lausanne are staging a brand new adaptation of the classic novel Little Women.

The play is set during the American Civil War and centres around four sisters as they grow and learn about themselves.

While there have been many stage versions of the novel, this particular adaptation by Heather Chrisler takes a new look. This performance will be the first time this version has been staged in Europe.

Two of the cast members Hannah Sellers (Jo) and Mackenzie Stanley (Meg) came into the WRS studios and spoke to Mark Butcher.
