Although they’re relatively new on the scene - their first event was in April 2024 - they’ve already made a big impact. Their Christmas party in December welcomed more than 450 guests, showing there’s clear demand for this kind of international, professional-yet-social community in Zurich.

With over 15,000 people in Switzerland living with Parkinson’s, the research shows that music can significantly improve movement, motivation, and mood. Prof. Rose explains how rhythm can act as an external cue to support walking, while even imagined music - an “inner jukebox” - can help people overcome freezing episodes.

The research was developed in close collaboration with people living with the condition and includes diverse musical styles, from marching music to traditional dance.

Note-by-Note, founded by Sue, runs several choirs and choral groups that rehearse and perform throughout the year. This Christmas Sing-a-long is open for everyone to join, with a selection of songs also performed by her professional choir.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, 6 December at the Salle Communale in Chéserex. The singing begins at 2pm and lasts for about an hour. Afterwards, guests can enjoy mulled wine and mince pies, and children can take part in planned activities while parents socialise.

Everyone - young and old - is warmly invited to join in, with a festive mix of Christmas songs for all to enjoy.

Entry is free, and donations are welcome to help cover the cost of the venue and support the Note-by-Note association.

The show is called ‘Not the Vagina Monologues’ and it’s a creation by singer songwriter Katrina Syran - she joined Mark Butcher in the studio with Madeleine Rees, who’s extraordinary life inspired the 2010 film, ‘the Whistleblower – where her role was played by Vanessa Redgrave. 

We’ll start with Katrina – who reminds us what the Vagina Monologues are all about…

Tobias explains the Bioparc’s mission to help visitors discover, understand, and reconnect with nature through close encounters with wildlife.

Babette shares insights into the curation process, why revisiting the past through visual journalism matters, and the stories behind some of the most striking images on display.

The exhibition highlights global themes including migration, environmental disasters, drug cartels, conflict, and climate change, offering an unflinching look at the world’s most urgent issues. The play is set during the American Civil War and centres around four sisters as they grow and learn about themselves.

While there have been many stage versions of the novel, this particular adaptation by  Heather Chrisler takes a new look. This performance will be the first time this version has been staged in Europe.

Clare's written two other books  on a Swiss theme: The Naked Swiss on Swiss culture and Voting Day, set on the day in 1959 when Swiss men voted that women should not get a vote. 

In December the island is full of runners young and old – visitors and locals alike for a series of runs around the most picturesque parts. 

There are several different runs you can take part in, ending with the marathon.

Occasionally controversial in her astute observations about Ancient Rome, Mary has draws parallels with the modern and ancient worlds and shines a light on what history has to teach us about our power, gender and human nature.

“Rethinking the System for Climate Action” is this year's theme for TEDxLausanne, Switzerland’s only TEDx Countdown Anchor Event.

On Saturday 8 November changemakers, scientists, creatives, and entrepreneurs will gather at UNIL's Amphimax in Lausanne, to connect deeply, rethink boldly, and act together. The day will start with interactive workshops, then TEDx talks by global and local climate leaders including UNIL’s Timothée Parrique, Sufficiency Lab’s Yamina Saheb, B-Lab’s Jonathan Normand, Tatiana Fedotova from LeafTurtle, Arthur Keller and more, followed by a networking cocktail evening.

Damien Gaultier - who has been curating the TEDx Lausanne event for 10 years now - joined Katt Cullen on the WRS Breakfast Show to explain more.

Through frank but sensitive communication, including humour, Plenna aims to amplify and build upon existing good practice, open spaces for bold discussions about decision-making in death and dying and how to live with the end in mind. With this strategy, they hope to remove the unnecessary suffering around death and dying.

On today's Breakfast Show, improv performer and coach Shay Schafer joins Katt Cullen, ahead of them both appearing on-stage this evening for a night of improv hilarity with the Renegade Saints at Mr Pickwick's Pub in Geneva. Shay arrived in Geneva last year from Chicago - the improv capital of the world - with credits from ComedySportz, The Annoyance Theatre, and Second City.

They discuss their love of performing, the mix of chaos and structure that drives improv, and how audience participation shapes a Renegade Saints show (though no one's ever forced to come on-stage, we promise!).

On today's WRS Breakfast Show, Beatrice Stirnimann, CEO of the Baloise Session, joins WRS’s Katt Cullen to talk about the festival’s spirit, what makes it stand out, and how it’s evolved over the past four decades. They discuss the importance of keeping performances intimate, the mix of genres that make up the lineup each year - from rock and pop to soul, jazz, and blues - and the magic of seeing legendary artists perform in such a personal space.

Beatrice also shares which artists have truly taken her breath away on that stage, and what makes her nervous as the festival kicks off... 

Baloise Session runs 17 October to 6 November 2025, and the programme this year features Duran Duran, Amy Macdonald, Aloe Blacc and Queens of the Stone Age. Though it's now mostly sold-out, a lucky few can still grab tickets for this Saturday’s show featuring Parov Stelar and Berlioz for a night of electro / electro-swing. 

For younger children, you’ll often start with activity-based sessions or “sports providers” from as early as age 2. Around 7 years old, kids can move into more structured training, and by 10, most are ready to join a local club with regular coaching, matches, and weekend tournaments.

There’s something for every level and interest:

Director Dr. Sofie Quarnström has approached the play through a psychological lens, exploring modern understandings of the human mind and behaviour. Her interpretation seeks to illuminate how psychological mechanisms - such as obsession, guilt, and moral disintegration - play out in a world increasingly shaped by disinformation and rising authoritarianism, exploring the seductive pull of ambition and the devastating consequences of moral decay.

This fierce, physical, and deeply relevant production will be performed across two venues in Geneva and neighbouring France.

The Clarinet on the Glacier tells the story of a group having to search for a highly valuable clarinet – which - for a variety of complicated reasons – hs been lost on a glacier in Switzerland.

John Ewart MacKenzie says he drew on his love of hiking in the Bernese Oberland to provide the books plot backdrop.

The 5th annual book sale takes place from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September 2025 at La Salle de la Blanchisserie in Divonne, next to the Tourist Office. Visitors will find hundreds of good-quality, second-hand English books for children, young adults, and adults. Mostly fiction, there are non-fiction books available, including cookery books. 

Most books are in English, although this year some French and Dutch books are also available. 

Books are priced at around CHF 3, with all proceeds supporting Nourishing Minds.

With the lake getting colder and ski slopes not yet open, it’s the perfect time to enjoy hiking trails as the leaves turn. Tamara shares some of her favourites: from Mont Salève, with its cable car and sweeping alpine views, to the peaceful forest paths of Mont Mussy in Divonne and the fascinating WWII fortifications along the Toblerone Walk.

She also recommends the woods of Versoix for a gentle family stroll surrounded by nature.

Today Maxime is telling us about the lunar eclipse that will be visible from Europe this Sunday evening. 

Look to the sky this Sunday between 8 - 9pm. The moon will rise with an orange-reddish colour. Maxime explains why this is, if the Earth is blocking the sun's light. It'll be visible with the naked eye.

The next one visible from Europe will be next August 2026.
