Young adults stay at home longer

Young adults in Switzerland are staying longer in the family home.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, half leave their parents at an average age of 23.7 — nearly two years later than previous generations.

At 20, only one in five have moved out, compared to one in three in the past.

Men tend to stay longer than women, and young people in Italian-speaking Switzerland leave home latest of all.

Despite moving out, most young adults still live close to their parents and stay in regular weekly contact
