Developers have begun felling trees at a controversial building site in the centre of Geneva.
Two hundred homes will be built on the site at 11, chemin de la Chevillarde in Chêne-Bougeries.
A local action group says it will continue to fight against the development, which will see 80 trees cut down and the 19th century maison Rosemont demolished - as well as several outbuildings.
The plot for the development covers 1.5 hectares, including woodland.
The developers, the company Keat SA, say that they have a legal right to begin work on the site even though an appeal against any work taking place is still ongoing.
The project is being contested by Action Patrimoine Vivant (APV), which has called for ‘super-provisional measures’ and continues to hope that the development will be stopped immediately.
