Snow sport accidents are becoming more and more common – and costly.
A study by the health insurer SUVA shows the number of accidents which involve multiple injuries are twice that now than they were 15 years ago.
Multiple injuries are more common in those over 55 years old – with women slightly more affected than men.
The most common injuries involve knees and ankles.
SUVA says there are various reasons – better record keeping may be having an impact, but there’s no doubt there are more injuries. Better equipment which allows faster speeds and tighter turns could be one of the main reasons.
The insurer recommends making sure you’re fully warmed up before the first run of the day and maybe be a bit more realistic on your fitness and ability.
It also points out an extra reason to be careful is that the hospitals are busy because of Covid
