Vaccinated should be treated faster

As pressure increases on intensive care beds some doctors are suggesting those who have been vaccinated should be prioritized over those who haven’t.

The Swiss Association of Nurses says in a press release that it may become necessary for doctors to triage patients.

The Hirslanden Clinic in Aarau says it already has to select patients for intensive care which means some do have to wait longer.

Some doctors do believe it’s ethical to treat the vaccinated faster. Infectious disease expert, Andreas Widmer, says it’s ‘not tolerable that unvaccinated patients take the place of the vaccinated, which will reduce the chances of survival’.

But it’s a view not shared by the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. It says it's highly opposed of taking into account vaccination status as a criterion for triage.
