Switzerland's universities will grow by more than a fifth over the next decade, driven in large part by foreign students, according to new federal projections
The number of international students is expected to rise by 19 percent at bachelor's level and 37 percent at master's, with ETH Zurich and EPFL already drawing 40 and 56 percent foreign enrolment respectively.
The expansion will require new buildings and staff — and more public money, since Swiss tuition is heavily subsidised.
Parliament ruled last month that EU students must pay the same fees as Swiss ones, but higher fees for students from outside the EU remain on the table.
