The ceremony marking one year since the Crans-Montana fire will no longer be held on the Haut-Plateau, after families of victims said returning to the site would be too painful
The Valais government has moved the 1 January commemoration to Grône, further down the valley.
President Christophe Darbellay said no alternative venue on the resort met the requirements for a ceremony expected to welcome up to 800 guests, including survivors, families, first responders and foreign dignitaries.
None of the current defendants in the criminal case will attend.
Crans-Montana will host a live public broadcast for those who want to join from the resort.
