Ukraine talks a boost for international Geneva

While Switzerland didn’t actively seek to host the meeting between the Americans, the Ukrainians and the Russians – the fact that all sides chose Geneva as a venue is a shot in the arm for Swiss diplomacy – says the Tribune de Genève.

The former foreign minister, Micheline Calmy-Rey, says Switzerland is acting more as ‘the waiter than the chef.’

She adds that it’s good news for Geneva the talks are taking place in the city, as multilateralism is faltering and staff numbers at international organisations are falling.

Achim Wennmann, a professor at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, told the paper that this meeting will offer welcome visibility to International Geneva, which is currently experiencing difficult times.
