Two dead in massive explosion

Two have died and 11 injured in a massive explosion which has rocked the town of Nussbaumen in canton Aargau.

It was in an underground car park of an apartment building at around 7pm last night. A search for possible further victims is ongoing.

A fire spread to several apartments after the explosion and residents had to be evacuated.

It’s currently unknown what caused it. Helicopters circled above, with rescuers plucking people from the roof.

The police had to call on private drone operators to ground their aircraft as they were hindering the helicopters which were also feeding information to firefighters.

The pressure from the explosion was so strong it blew out windows.

Cantonal authorities have set up emergency accommodation for local residents as there are fears the building is now unstable.
