The price of fuel in Switzerland remains high compared to neighbouring countries and many say its due to a lack of information which is hampering healthy competition between filling stations in the country.
France, Germany and Austria all have websites which show the price of a litre of petrol or diesel at many different stations across their respective countries.
In Bern, two different committees are calling for a similar system. The Swiss price ombudsman, Stefan Meierhans, called for such a system in the spring – saying the lack of transparency is keeping prices high.
He says the system will force service stations to regularly update their price and react to competitors.
