Temps set to fall today

Switzerland is set to break free of its record-breaking heatwave today, as a cooler front moves in after Saturday's 39°C in Basel — a national June record broken three days running.

Nineteen weather stations across the country recorded all-time highs over the weekend, including 37.1°C in Zurich, beating a record set in August 2003.

Switzerland's all-time mark of 41.5°C, set in Grono in canton Graubünden in August 2003, still holds.

MeteoSwiss expects temperatures to drop sharply today, bringing real relief to residents.

Climate scientists warn that what was once a generational heatwave is now nearly annual, with Europe heating at twice the global average.
