Tea-time nudity on TV

SRF

The main cultural show broadcast on German language television, Tagesschau, caused a stir back in August when it showed clips from a theatre show which featured full frontal nudity.

The programme goes out in the early evening when there’s a strong chance families would be watching.

Although the presenter did give a warning ahead of the item – many people complained to the regulator – which has just issued its verdict.

The panel agreed the content may have broken some parts of the broadcasting act, but also concluded it was not obscene or pornographic.

They do say the public broadcaster should have been more careful, as even the producers of the stage show say it’s not suitable for under 18s.

But no one complained about the name of the show – which is a strong profanity in English, but not German.
