Climate change will have a major impact on Switzerland, according to new climate scenarios from MeteoSwiss and ETH Zurich.
The report warns that, because of its complex terrain, Switzerland is among the regions most affected by global warming.
Temperatures here are rising almost twice as fast as the global average.
Even if the Paris Climate Agreement target of 1.5 degrees is met worldwide, Switzerland would still warm by nearly 3 degrees.
Heat waves, heavy rainfall, and droughts are becoming more frequent - and Zurich could see five times more tropical nights – defined when temperatures don’t drop below 20 overnight.
The report paints an even more serious picture for Ticino, which would be hotter and with far more tropical nights.
Clearly, the report also points out there’ll be less snow in the winter.
