Swiss vocally disappointed at COP26

The Swiss Environment Minister says the outcome at the COP26 summit in the United Kingdom was disappointing – but signed the agreement anyway.

Simonetta Sommaruga says the goal of the meeting has not been met. She says the outcome was shaped by self-interest and was highly critical of the change of wording in the final text which talks about ‘phasing down’ coal use and not ‘phasing out’.

The Swiss negotiating team was vocal in its disappointment.

But there was some satisfaction in the agreement surrounding carbon credits which allows polluters to invest in carbon capture schemes to offset their emissions.
