The new Swiss president, Karin Keller-Sutter, is facing criticism for opening a new account on the social media site X – formerly known as Twitter – just after Christmas, at a time many are deserting it.
She said she wants to engage with the population.
But other politicians, journalists and researchers are leaving – heading for a new start-up, Bluesky.
Many claim X, run by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has become overwhelmed with extreme right-wing commentators and an algorithm which favours hate speech.
But despite this, Federal government agencies are still on X. A spokesman for the government says ‘social networks evolve, some lose relevance and others emerge’.
