This country is not doing well on carbon emissions, according to a new report from the consulting firm McKinsey.
While emissions from inside the country are 50 million tonnes, which is less than point 1 percent of the global total – that number soars when goods being imported into the country are taken into account, the operations of Swiss companies abroad and those financed by the Swiss economy.
That would add around a billion tonnes to the total output.
The McKinsey researchers say that Switzerland is a significant contributor of carbon emissions and has a direct influence on 3% globally.
That puts this country on the same level as Brazil and Indonesia.
Under the Paris Agreement, Switzerland has pledged to halve emissions by 2030. But the government has to redraw its plans after voters rejected the proposed package last year.
