Sunday trading rules slammed as 'confusing'

The latest plans from the federal government on allowing some shops to open on Sunday seems to have upset everyone.

The broad idea of the plan is to allow more trading on Sunday in areas which are heavily used by tourists.

The town needs to have more than 60,000 inhabitants and at 50% of hotel stays must be by tourists.

The shops that are allowed to open will be mainly aimed at tourists.

This is overly complicated and will only be confusing says the Genève Commerces association, that wants more opportunities for Sunday trading. A spokeswoman says the retail sector as a whole is needed to make a city attractive to tourists.

Unions are opposed to Sunday opening, saying it’s a move to a society that works 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
