Pro street advertising campaign launches

The Geneva issue that just won’t seem to go away – if poster advertising on the street should be banned.

There will be vote on March 12th to make the final decision.

Those opposed to a ban launched their campaign yesterday.

A collection of right wing politicians and business people told the press the move would be dangerous to the economy – and the state would lose millions of francs in rental money.

The arguments for the ban say advertising promotes over consumption, blocks sidewalks and the boards are an eyesore.

But those against say they’re vital for local businesses, which may switch to online advertising – thereby benefitting big tech companies.

The income from the boards to the city is enough to pay for more than 300 creche spaces, say campaigners.
