Police dog handlers call for better treatment

Geneva’s police dog handlers are sounding the alarm over the working conditions of their animals.

For two years, officers have warned that the 22 dogs at the La Gravière police station face heat, noise, and confinement that could endanger their health.

Without proper kennels, the dogs are often left in garages or vehicles during operations, sometimes for hours.

Handlers say this breaches animal welfare rules and causes stress to the animals.

Police management acknowledges the issue and says measures are underway, including a dedicated working group created earlier this year.
