People back all federal decisions

Following yesterday’s votes – the government will be a breathing a sigh of relief after voters backed all their proposals.

This country will boost the amount it pays towards the EU’s external border force - Frontex.

Detractors say the body is responsible for human rights abuses against asylum seekers – pushing them back to sea.

But the government says if Switzerland didn’t increase its budget, its status as a member of the passport free Schengen zone could be threatened.

Over 71% backed the government.

We are all organ donors – unless we say otherwise.

Voters have backed the new law which now gives ‘presumed consent’. Over 60% said yes to the idea that if someone doesn’t want to have their organs donated, they have to specifically opt-out.

It’s hoped the change in law will boost Switzerland’s rather low transplant rate. There are around 1,400 people on a transplant list at the moment – and 72 died waiting last year.

The result is a victory for the government and parliament which had already backed the change.

Netflix and other streaming companies will have to invest at least 4% of their revenue from Switzerland into Swiss TV and film production. They will also have to have at least 30% of their content from Europe – but due to rules in other countries, that obligation is already kept.

The Federal Office of Culture estimates it’ll be worth CHF 18m to the industry.

The law, known as Lex Netflix – although it includes all streamers – was passed by 58%.
