The president, Guy Parmelin, is heading back to Brussels next month to finalise a new package of agreements with the European Union.
It’s a striking return, five years after he abruptly ended talks on the framework deal in 2021.
Parmelin is expected to sign what’s known as Bilateral Agreements Three before the Federal Council submits the text to Parliament in March.
The package includes stronger cantonal involvement in EU law and a safeguard clause to ease traffic pressure in Ticino.
For the agreement to be finalised, it needs to be passed by parliament and voters.
