FM radio could get a reprieve.
It was planned that private radio stations would have to close their FM services at the end of the year.
They’re now the only services on FM after all the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation stations moved to DAB at the beginning of the year.
But the commercial stations are fighting the decision after listening figures for the public stations have fallen by around 25% - many are now listening to the private or non-Swiss stations, especially in areas close to the border.
Under pressure from the commercial sector, parliament is due to vote on giving FM stations a further two years.
But many DAB stations have started over the last few years - gearing up for FM switch off.
An umbrella organisation for digital radio, UNIKOM, is pushing for parliament to reject the motion saying ‘FM owners are attempting to cement their dominant role’.
