There seems to be little appetite in Bern for Geneva to host an annual COP climate event.
The canton sent an initiative to parliament in Bern calling for it to intervene with the federal council to allow the Greater Geneva region to host the major international conference.
The upper house – the Council of States – has not followed up on the initiative. It’s thought senators doubt whether the region has the capacity for such an event – and it remains unresolved how the costs will be share between the canton and the confederation.
The lower house has yet to respond.
