Organised crime established in Switzerland

Nicoletta della Valle, head of the Federal Police.

The head of the Federal Police Office says organised crime is well established in Switzerland – and they lack the resources to tackle the problem.

Nicoletta della Valle says there are around 60 ongoing investigations. She told the NZZ that they’ve progressed only around 20% so far, and the information is going cold – and therefore less useful.

She says the crime gangs are involved with drugs and weapons.

The gangs come from mainly from Italy and the Balkans. To make life even more difficult for the authorities, she says they are more often working together.

Della Valle says in this country police numbers compared to the population is far lower than the European average.
